Valentines’ Day is around the corner! Most of us know this day as a special day to spend with your significant other. A day when chocolates and flowers are given and when you go on candlelight dinners. However, there’s so much more to that!

1. International Quirkyalone Day is an official Valentine's Day for singles
 





International Quirkyalone Day is the holiday for single people on the same date. It is a moment to celebrate self love and platonic relationships. International Quirkyalone Day has been celebrated globally since 2003.


 

2. Candies are more popular than flowers during Valentine’s Day
 



 

Although roses are one of the most common gifts in Valentines’ Day, they are not as highly sought after as candy. According to the National Confectioners Association, chocolates are preferred over flowers during Valentine’s Day. The survey also found that chocolate sales represent 75 percent or more of Valentine's Day candy purchases.

 


3. Valentine’s Day is not just for humans
 




Apart from humans, pets can celebrate Valentine’s Day as well! According to the National Retail Federation, 27 percent of people celebrating Valentine's Day in 2020 also bought gifts for their pets. The Valentine’s Day expenditure for pets has also grown significantly to more than $1.7 billion.

Valentine’s Day originated in the Roman Festival of Lupercalia. It is a day where lovers express their affection with greetings and gifts. It is also known as St. Valentine's Day.

Apart from Christmas Day, Valentine’s Day is one of the most popular dates for proposals. More than 10,000 people in the UK propose to their partners on Valentine’s Day each year. Millennials think that Valentine’s Day is the most romantic day for proposals.
